To volunteer for Slough Mencap you should be over 16 years of age and have an interest in serving those members of our community with learning disabilities. In the first instance, you should Contact Us to find out about nore or contact the office – 01753 594666 and speak to our Chief Executive Eleanor Cryer.
We run clubs three times a week for our members and much of the regular volunteering takes place at the Clubs. Volunteers are expected to arrive on time and devote the time they spend at Slough Mencap with the members. They assist the smooth running of the clubs, mix with the members and follow the advice and guidance of the Club Leader. Initially, they will be given a very limited amount of paperwork explaining what is required and should the volunteer wish to continue they would be expected to read and comply with Slough Mencap policies and procedures. It is at this stage that we would require a DBS certificate and receive Vulnerable Adult training should this be necessary. Sounds very structured but this is for the benefit of all concerned. Please be assured that all those interested in volunteering at Slough Mencap will have an enormous amount of fun as well being very rewarding. Age is no deterrent and we have a variety of volunteering opportunities available for all sorts of people. Our Club Leaders all have up to date First Aid certificates.
In addition, you could be a Board Member, Friend of Slough Mencap, escort our members on trips and help with outings, events and fundraising, building maintenance and letting.
